I have a tendency to recap power supplies too as I have seen these bulging caps on two Pacifics I recapped last year. Both are in a twin Sega Virtual On running great ever since.
I also suggest replacing the adjustment pot too as those tend to go bad first. Two common signs of a bad pot are...
Man I learned some stuff ever since I replaced the ADM485 on a System 246C that wouldn't read I/O boards (and that fixed it if you're wondering). The little black component is a filter meaning one should read continuity between the two ends of a filter. It's possible to check continuity between...
I've managed to replace the tiny ADM485 IC on that S246C last January but didn't have enough time to test the board then. As of last weekend, I have finally tested this board and can say this issue has been fixed. It's a small SOIC8 IC fairly near the USB connector (depending on board model) and...
That is very nice. I also found out that the factory speakers themselves were also used in various consumer CRTs. They were also known for their poor quality in general as most owners likely resorted to buying external speakers. At some point, I may find some shielded speakers.
Going to extend this a bit. Is it possible the OP was using a s246c motherboard because those and 256 contain an additional 5.5v .1f supercapacitor (exact same as Naomi) that isn't present in s246b and earlier. Both Time Crisis 3 board assemblies use s246c motherboards.
If leakage is a concern...
Did you get this issue solved? I'm having the exact same problem with one board in a twin Time Crisis 3. Reflowing the battery socket didn't work either and I tested voltages at the socket solder points. Both boards read 3v.
Thank you
I plan on updating another Ghost Squad cab soon this time using this method (the last method I used was from an RL friend's RPI). I wonder if anyone updated type 3 Triforce or Chihiro systems to the hacked media board firmware using this? I'm pretty sure it involves editing the hacked firmware...
Decided to look more into it and found this thread: https://www.ukvac.com/forum/threads/testing-namco-system-246.57211/
This person attempted to run Time Crisis 3 without a JVS IO board and shows the same symptoms as both of us. This is the result of what happens if Time Crisis 3 boots and...
Did you ever get this issue solved? I'm having this problem too and may know the cause. It could be cold solder joints or a broken USB connector. I noticed this the same behavior if you boot Time Crisis 3 with the USB (JVS) cable unplugged and plan to replace the USB port soon.

After two years, me and an rl friend managed to get the Ghost Squad cab running on CF. I'm giving a +1 to cftools.
For the best results, I suggest extracting (and decrypting) the game binary from the mame chd dump of the GD-ROM. I've...
