Hello the tech boyz !

i have a combo Spi Seibu and Raiden F that gives me a Checksum error.

I read the topics about revive patch AND region hex change but i can't make it work.

Here is the revision of my Raiden F cart:

Just to be sure:

Is there any solution to find out what is my motherboard region?

I dumped the PRG0 eprom and the last bit was 8C. This region is not related anywhere (JP 01, Switzerland 9C etc... but i'm not able to find which region is 8C)

Answers:

- The SPI main board's region code is stored inside the first byte of the u1053 flash chip on the board. There really isn't an easy way to find out what the board's current region is without using the SPI Revive because you'd have to desolder the flash chip from the board and dump it to find out. Or swap game carts from different regions until you find one that boots.

- Once you've swapped the four EPROMs of your Raiden Fighters cart to the SPI Revive set, it'll display the main board's region code to you when you power on with both action buttons held down, and offer you the option to change it.

- The JP071 jumper on the SPI mainboard needs to be moved before the SPI Revive code can flash a new region code to the board. You can swap the jumper back to the Normal setting after the new region code is set.

- Your game's region code of 0x8c is for Great Britain. From the MAME driver:
0x01 Japan
0x10 US
0x20 Taiwan
0x22 Asia / Hong Kong
0x24 Korea
0x28 China
0x80 Europe / Germany
0x82 Austria
0x8c Great Britain
0x8e Greece
0x90 Holland
0x92 Italy
0x96 Portugal
0x9c Switzerland
0x9e Australia
0xbe World?

On this cart, i have to desolder the PRG23 and set 2 eproms on PRG2 and PRG3.
I also have to desolder PRG1 and replace it with an eprom right?
On my mainboard, i don't have the jumper. It's a sxx2d v2.1

Only have JP121 and the reverse red switch
 
Hmm…your Raiden Fighters cart and SPI main board are both a bit different than mine. I apologize-i should have looked closer at your picture earlier.

On my cart board, all the ROMs are socketed EPROMs which makes swapping four of them out for SPI Revive straightforward:

Yours combines the CPU programming into two soldered mask ROMs and two socketed EPROMs. It looks like the pinouts on the mask ROMs are different from the EPROMs, so I don’t think your cart is a good candidate for SPI Revive - I’d leave it alone.

Instead, I suggest you look around for another SPI cart that uses the all EPROMs layout and use that one instead to apply SPI Revive and change your SPI board revision.

It looks like you don’t have to worry about changing a jumper before reprogramming the region code on your SPI main board, so that’s less work for you at least.

I've done all that i undestood in the Revive tutorial but i can't boot to the region change screen :(

When i put the cart on another main board, it's the same. I can't boot to the region change screen but the game boots up normaly

Any tips to be sure that i made the job correctly?
 
If it's booting to the game, then you haven't prepared the roms correctly.

Are you sure you're using a compatible rom set for generating the files? IIRC it's very specific.

I use the rdftj mame roms

open a shell and start the command makerom with the rdftj.hex

If the board’s region code matches the game’s then it’ll boot in to the game directly with SPI Revive unless you hold down both action buttons while turning the game on.

So ! Here is the point:

I could not flash the main board because of, i think, bad solders. I had to bend the cart and the board to finish the flash. Then the game booted.
The mainboard was in region "Invalid".


So now, With my proper cart (Sub 2 like your @ShootTheCore) and the revives rom on the main board that was bad -> All is OK

Now, i think i have to desolder PRG1 + PRG 23 on my cart to have it working on the board. (The SUB4 cart with different eproms than yours on PRG23)
Because i swapped PRG0 and put the eprom with a Japan vesion of the rom -> No Boot, black screen with white dots
swapped the PRG0 with the revive Japan rom on eprom -> white fullsceen at boot
 
Or may i just dump the PRG0 of the faulty cart (8C) and modify the last digits to 01 now the board is in JP?

For another information: My good mainboard is in "china" region. The good cart in GB (8c). How can that be possible XD
 
Done.

The Raiden is alive ! I dumped the original PRG0, then change the region to JP and voila.
