Yeah KI1 pcbs can be used for both games. KI2 pcbs work only with KI2. You can see which it is by looking at the two chips just above the processor. If neither label says KI2 then it should work with both.

... if you can find the IDE adapter, then a KI board can do KI2. Those conversion boards are not common though. At least that's what I've read. I'm not sure why though. Anyone tried a CF or DOM for KI2 on a KI board without the ide adapter?

I have two of those adapter boards that came off an eBay auction. As for KI->KI2 without the adapter board, it isn't possible. Tried it myself.

nice, thanks for the firsthand info. I wonder what the board has on it that makes the magic happen, seems odd that there is a difference somehow. Lmk if you're thinking of selling one!

I'll sell both of those daughter cards at some point. This is contingent upon acquiring a dedicated KI2 cab that has been on my list for a while. Just can't seem to muster enough energy for the cross state drive to get it. Plus I have to clear some inventory at my place. You're at the top of the list when that time comes.

Also, I think it is just some extra ram. Like the 4mb expansion port on the N64. Nintendo did stuff like that during that era.
