Can you access game test mode?
Assuming you've swapped the keychip over as well?

What's the security key number? If you are trying to use a VF: FS version A key, it's waiting for an internet connection...you need B offline version in order to play it offline.

Yup that's the one you have to be connected to Sega's servers in order for it to work.
:( bummer I guess I need to get a multi kit for it...
btw
what is the "correct" keychip I'm looking for? in case I'll see it sometimes on yahoo auctions

Is that true for the ones being sold on fleabay as "Unlocked Final" as well? Did these recieve some type of offline patch when online services were terminated, or is this some kind of shady cracked version? If its something legit I wonder if it would be possible to apply it to the donor? I would imagine its ok to do as long as you arn't circumventing the need for the original keychip.

Bump... Having this same issue, except I'm attempting to install the game from the DVD. Is there anyway to bypass this and force the board to install from DVD?

Yes. It's a little bit trickier than that though. You can't just plop one in and there we go.

You need that weird Card Reader inside the lindbergh that they use for I'm guessing keeping tabs on $ or an identification for the game. (it checks for it during boot up and if it's not there, it doesn't play). It can't be upgraded to VF5: FS B from a fresh install or from A -->B via discs. My guess is it has to have been online in Japan at least once (during Final Shodown Version A) and it rewrote something on the HDD or Flash card.

Interesting, what occurs if you try to do a fresh install from a ver B dvd out of curiosity?

It errors out saying something went wrong during the bootup screen (the Lindbergh boot up screen, IE when it opens the program file for the game)
