MiSTerAddons MiSTercade - MiSTer for JAMMA cabinets

Ok, great, but the issue that remains is that your MVS board and MiSTercade have different video output levels, which isn't ideal. I measured an MV1C when developing MiSTercade and its video output levels are very close to mine (3.3V vs 3.0V). The circuit I'm using for RGB video amplification is 1:1 with a very popular arcade platform and I haven't had many other users with brightness issues. Do you have other original arcade games you can compare against? Arcade video can be up to 5V. Cheers!
Are there any software option for RGB v. Peak? Maybe I must create a new sd just using the image and config as ofiicial guide since also cps1 running at same level of the MVS on this cab with this setting.

I've found that 270 ohm series resistors on the R, G, and B lines and 680-750 ohm series resistor on the H-sync line output 0.7V RGB and -0.3V Csync on a 75 ohm display. I may spin up a few standalone adapters to make life easy :)
Have you ever released this adapter, maybe can fix all rgb gains issues on my cab

Yes it Is just what I did, had to set the gain pots to obtain an easy setup from mvs cps2 and the other jamma board to mistercade just using the contrast pot only.
To make it easy I put the contrast pot to max to obtain an absolutely sharp and brilliant colors for jamma pcbs and just turn down the same pot of 1/4 for mistercade.

Yeah the XL board has a 75-ohm RGB VGA output but idk if that helps you with the MS9 chassis :)

It surprises me that MiSTercade is outputting a higher voltage image than your other arcade PCBs given that MiSTercade’s video level is 3V vs many arcade PCBs’ 5V levels. Kind of a head scratcher for me.

Sorry, missed this one, but there are no RGB level options for mister. It’s basically on or off, then up to the video level implementation :)

Another user here had the same problem, he cured this by putting some 120 ohm resistors on rgb lines at jamma connector.

@misteraddons I'm looking at your remote board and definitely would like to pick it up but before I do, wanted to know if there were plans to enhance the design. Specifically looking to see if it's possible to add additional buttons to support the new PSX core and eventually (hopefully soon to come) Saturn core. Not exactly practical to add additional buttons to a cabinet which didn't come with them initially and jamma isn't wired to support more than 6 anyway with a kick harness. Even mapping the Select button was tricky (have to use coin switch at the moment). Having Select + button 7 & 8 for each player on a remote board would be ideal if that's a possibility.

Curious what PSX game you would play requiring more than 6 buttons on an arcade cab? I totally get different strokes for different folks, personally I’m focused on PSX arcade ports maximizing a 6 button arcade cp nothing more. Maybe consider getting an 8 button cp instead?

@hyp36rmax I don't necessarily need 8 buttons but the option to have it + Select for both players easily accessible without changing the control panel would be nice. And back to my point above: button 7 & 8 is not available in standard jamma nor in mistercade kick harness support. Even with extra buttons added to the control panel, where would they connect to mistercade?

I suppose that's an option @ShootTheCore and it's something I've considered soon as the PSX core became a reality. I'd like to avoid this if possible, as to me it goes completely against the concept of using the mistercade in the first place, which is to utilize the already existing digital control scheme that my cab already has wired up. It's supposed to be easy to use by design soon as you plug it into the jamma harness and for about 95% of my intended use cases, that holds true.

I just want to understand how difficult it would be to include these missing buttons on the remote board or if that's not really an option, what my best alternatives could be aside from using a padhack for USB controller or SNAC for PSX pads.

The remote board has 3 user-definable buttons mapped to it: P1Coin, P2Coin, and Service. You can define those in each core. For arcade cores the coins are mapped normally and Service is mapped to pause. You can do whatever you'd like with them for console cores.

Another alternative, which isn't ideal, is for 1P panels: P2Joy is is mapped as 4 extra buttons to P1 as well as directions for P2. I did this so I could do twin stick shooters without a special setup. If you wanted to make a custom 1P panel you could probably add extra buttons to P2Joy and use them for P1.

Long story short, I made MiSTercade for JAMMA cabinets which never came with 8 buttons, and most cabinet friendly games only use 6 buttons. You can use the remote coin buttons as select. That's probably the best compromise :)

Feedback is much appreciated @misteraddons and I can definitely work with the remote board compromises. The P2Joy suggestion is also interesting.

Your products are awesome and I'm especially looking forward to the vs and express offerings.

Einhander would be one. You can get away with using 6 but it’s not optimal.
That game really wasn’t designed with arcade CP’s in mind, BUT it’s a fitting game to play on an actual cab.
