Howdy. Just picked up an OK Baby for dirt cheap only expecting to do some plastic welding on the body but seems like I have a bigger issue to resolve. REALLY do not want to have to replace the whole monitor. Looking for applicable replacements for the tube on this guy because all else seems... okay.
Very nice 29" flat panel when all is said and done...

Thanks in advance, y'all!

Oof. A quick glance on AP posts and google shows that the chassis is probably a clone of the Wei-Ya universal chassis, so a complete replacement is probably the best route if possible. Otherwise, it's a case of rolling the dice with random 27" TV tubes you can find and hoping the chassis and yoke is OK with it.

Alternatively, you can replace it with a Unico ULM26 LCD screen. They are somewhat derided for scaling issues and some initial snafus in terms of claimed resolution, but they perform decently in terms of lag and sync capability (15-31khz compatible). I can bring mine into the shop for you to try if you want to take a look (I know Rat Nest when I see it!). It's light enough that it would make rotation pretty easy too.

hehHEHEH you got me.

I would like to prevent doing another LCD since we have all those Nova Blasts on the way... If push comes to shove I wouldn't really mind. So we could totally check it out if you would like to bring it on in, thank you!

WELL. If I really should replace it. Seems like JCL has some toshibas monitors ready to go for $500...

I've never dealt with JCL before, but if the cost works out (shipping is gonna be killer), then it can be an option. I wasn't sure how much money/effort you were willing to a fairly janky cab, and I imagine a decent replacement monitor would easily be worth several times the cab itself. Then again, a ULM26 is also not an insignificant cost either.

I'll keep an eye out for local arcade monitors.

i really appreciate that. thank you sm!

i do want to keep it cheap... but having trouble finding anything both local and affordable for a replacement...

which is why i was hoping just get a tube replacement lol. would be easiest to just find another ok baby and yank it out of there.

The yoke specs definitely align with some consumer TV tubes. That's an option.

I put an MS9 in mine. I had to modify the mounting ears to clear the larger tube.

I don't know if the original size tube was commonly sold in the US, there's an older discussion by me and some other members about it.

I wouldn't be too attached to that chassis.

replacement tube is the best way to go, probably a yaton or something random on facebook/offerup might be your best bet.

so i had a feeling this may not be the original monitor in here... first time seeing this... homson? is this normal for an ok baby? i mean regardless, just hoping it's far more of a common tube to replace.

the person i got it from also told me it wasn't shpposed to have a broken monitor so they're also trying to help. thankfully...

also been plastic welding and cleaning her all day. looking loads better.

thank you for all the suggestions as well!

hopefully these still line up with the monitor in here...

this is my push comes to shove solution. thankfully have a few resources for nanao monitors... just hoping i don't have to for price + the monitor just looks really nice as is... just yknow... not the getting necked part...

i had been keeping an eye out... but this mystery monitor may be a problem now..

lmfao i just realized it says "THOMSON" not Homson smh

These originally came with either Ducksan or Hantarex monitors afaik, and curved--not flat. Someone swapped the monitor for sure.

It's a clone/rebranding of the common Wei-ya universal chassis. The sticker you found says the acceptable ranges for the yoke's resistance and inductance. Assuming the chassis works, I would advise picking up a meter which can measure inductance (I use this one) and checking the yoke of some random 27" TVs. Luckily, these universal chassis are designed to work with the range found on typical consumer TV yokes, and do not require low-inductance yokes like the Nanaos etc.

Oh yeah, on another note: I have one of these cabs and I actually really like it. The whole cab breaks down into panels, which makes deep cleaning a breeze. They all seem to crack in the control panel housing corners, but I was able to get mine MUCH better by using a small bit of acetone on a q-tip and running it down the crack, then pressing and holding the two sides together. Afterwards I did some plastic welding on the inside with some ABS scraps and it's super strong. I tried with all my force to break it and was unsuccessful.
