Adding RCA cables to CN5 connector on blast city non 001 harness?

Hi can anyone explain how to connect rca plugs to the CN5 connector on a blast city I/O board? My harness did not come with them and if I can add this myself I'd rather not have to buy a whole new harness.

This forum post describes exactly what I want to do. I just don't know how to safely take apart the connector and what I'll need. I have some spare rca cables and wire strippers but I don't know if I need anything else.

My harness looks basically the same as the one in the forum post. I didn't get lucky enough to get the 001 loom it seems.

I know how to make ethernet cables with RJ45s and solder usb cables together. That's the extent of my experience.

Can a solder wires directly into here and if so how? Strip them, feed the ends in there, and apply hot solder with the iron?

My CN5 connector looks just like this one in the forum post.

Thanks

Thanks.

You remove that harness from the c5 connector by pressing wide the tabs on either side. The wiring and then all comes out.

your rca cables would need to be terminated with the appropriate JST RA solderless pins, and those slide right into the connector. Just crimp the right pins on and you’d be good. If you don’t have the right pins or crimper I bet someone here (@dos ?) does and can make you the rca cable.

I have mine swappable, all 6 lines (mono, left, right pairs) terminate in a 6 connector. Then I swap in whichever audio I want. That way I never run both at once.

Is there an issue with running both at the same time? Not like the audio on my jamma would get any use through the jpac or Mistercade anyway.
Do I need the crimper to close up the CN5 connector again or just to get the pins on the stripped rca ends?
What kind of crimper do I need?

You need to crimp the contact to the stripped RCA ends, and then pop the contact into the appropriate place on the connector (while it's disconnected!). I would recommend using something like this for those contacts: https://www.amazon.com/Hozan-P-706-Open-Barrel-Crimper/dp/B002TKG11G

Note that I have no idea what you should do with ground in this case as I don't have a blast. RCA cables are coaxial and the shield should be grounded, but the RA connector isn't made for this. I have no idea how the original Sega cable handles this.

I don’t think anything dangerous. If the source outputs both, I just wouldn’t really want to hear mono+stereo mixed together and have no easy way to turn off the mono (jamma)

The wiki link i shared shows two pins in the connector are for L and R ground. Wouldn't that just be the negative ends of the rca connectors?

So if I'm getting this right can I just crimp the ends of the rca wires and insert them into the CN5 connector, disconnected from the I/O board first, without having to break it apart and rewire everything?

My bad, I didn't check the wiki. So yeah in that case you would crimp the L+ L- R+ R- and insert them in the correct places and you are good to go.

If you get a chance to take a pic of the six connector that would be great. I can’t quite picture how it’s working for you.

Great @ekorz, I see now. Much appreciated. So if I was to say have a Xbox 360 LR RCA connected would that mean I would need to not have the mono connected? I’m just trying to figure out in what use case you need to swap connectors. Thanks again.

Yea. When I run something with stereo, I use the 6 pin plug connected to my rca cables. Only 4 of the pins are populated on that.

Then for jamma I unplug the rcas and plug in the 6 pin that leads to the jamma connector. Only 2 of those pins are populated.

Right now in this cab I’m running Examu or cps1 multi. So examu is always rca stereo. Cps1 multi gets swapped… jamma is for cps1 games, rca is cps1.5 games.

Thanks for the replies especially the heads up on blowing a resistor. Apologies on the late reply. I think my best course of action is going to be to get an 001 jamma harness for the blast. Lemony vengeance told me he could make me one and ship it. For right now I'm just getting away with pc speakers but I have confirmed via a pcb the speakers do work and sound good over Jamma.
