Australian Roll Call / Registry / Deals Thread

Don’t overthink it @Ziggy Cheetos Dust… unless you’re a Instagram whore I don’t think any of it matters ultimately. Just get your cabs looking good enough to you and get cracking with the games! Same with the workspace. An evolving space is way more exciting than a tidy show(off)room IMO.

I grabbed that Astro from up north and it’s doors are pretty beaten up. Like every one of my other cabs I’m going to keep it the way they arrive… no fishing the Internet for compliments on the beauty of what are useful to me as nothing more than the mechanisms for playing my PCBs.

Yes agreed. It’s that work in progress which is so fun. I do enjoy tidying up the cabinets and seeing other people do the same, but yes the goal is to then enjoy playing them. That’s great you got that Astro. Is there space for another in your room?

Yeah I embrace the war wounds! I don't need immaculate cabs.. I just want to play on them - don't get me wrong, there's been a couple of cabs that I've given my best effort to restore (in the cheapest way possible), but that's only because they were pretty much a rust bucket and going to the bin :D

It'd be nice to do a whole powder coat restore of the aeros, but it'll cost way too much and there's no gain expect aesthetics. When I'm looking at the screen playing, I don't need to worry about what the outside of the cab looks like. As long as the monitor, joystick and buttons are all good and my behind is sitting on something comfortable, then I'm happy.

Ambient lighting can always be purchased on the cheap, parts and tools can be acquired over time - it's overwhelming when you think about all the things in this hobby, but it's only overwhelming when you think of it all together.. a couple of bits and pieces here and there over the course of a year and you'll have a nice little toolkit.

Went to Aldi this morning and picked up one of each type of the drawers. They had about 10 of each on display at my local store

For reference, the dimensions on the drawers are

305 x 165 x 415mm (WxDxH)

One of the other products they’re selling is a micro drill set, they’ve had these before and I have one but I’ve worn out most of the bits

These are super useful for drilling out solder from through holes that are difficult to clear, I would definitely recommend them for $10. They come in a plastic case for storage

I bought 2 more of those and a set of small files

If anyone wants a set and can’t get to an Aldi, let me know and I’ll go back and grab a set to send out

Good to hear. I went as well and they had plenty of the magnifying lights there. So I’ll take a chance and give it a week and see if they discount excess stock.

I have a lot of new products from KOWAL, Buttercade and of course Murakumo Arts to put up on the site over the next few days. If you are chasing something specific, let me know so I can put it aside for you.
Cheers.

Are you getting the button snap out tool for 24mm and 30mm from Buttercade? I think I'd be keen on that - if you could please put one of each aside for me to go along with my order whenever it arrives that'd be great!

Hey love the shop :), Would you consider stocking more korean joystick parts? already really happy that you have the 309MJ, it would be great to also be able to get these other parts locally, extremely hard to ever justify buying these when istmalls shipping alone costs more than a whole selection of parts.
Just a little wish list:

Thanks very much for taking the time to steer me towards the parts you are chasing. This helps me out a lot.
I will get onto this now and all going to plan, have most of this gear on the next shipment.
PM me anything you may want specifically to be set aside, should you need to.
Thanks again mate!

^ This is cool. @xb74 is there a fighting game community around Aust that you are/can get in on so all these dudes can pimp their sticks out?

I mean I can imagine you having a booth at a tournament and selling heaps of stuff.

I would love to mix it in that type of surrounding!
Part of this store endeavour has involved me being dragged kicking and screaming into FB and Twitter to connect to these people and groups.
It has proved very interesting and challenging and opened up dialog with many people worldwide.
I am not near a capital city which severely limits my exposure to these in-person events unfortunately.
The distance won't dissuade me from future planning a booth down south in the next few years :) Sounds like a lot of fun!

Pulled my finger out of the very comfortably lazy ass of mine ....

Bout time i finished off this cabinet that was sold to me as a hunk of electrical incompantence & huslled by July astrological bullshit ( it could play pcb's / mame but fuckin hell! ... ) at least it came with a bag of pot.

Small steps ,

The pcb board i like and gave it a finish close to a Steinway.

I was working on trying to emulate an original Taito E2 step down , but in 2022 i think it will be smarter to draw a fine line between keeping the 1996 aesthetic & keeping it kinda safe.
Im not a sparkie , so I figure at the 240v input I dont / shouldn't just use terminal blocks just cos "Taito did" .....

Willing to be convinced otherwise as my ocd really wants me to make the OG.

My E2 will be 100% original wiring harness / connections / etc , everything " new school " will be adaptable ....

Amazing how a 3yrs break , does clarify and clears the mind and approach problems with fresh thinking ( wank wank justification for procrastinating ) .... But shit I must of have some awesome madizm in the winter of '19 :)

Open to ideas about my mame / saidaioujou pc build , obvs not their design ( as it pretty self explanatory to understand) but this kinda open mounting i kinda dig .....Easy to adapt to a mounted arcade build i reckon ....

On the hunt for a classic OG CRT wooden cab, chammafied with a Pandora's Box in it for a bar I work in. Not after anything modern, LCD or flatpack.

Doesn't have to be flash but has to be functional. Main requirements are a working $1/$2 coin-mech and a 2P control panel for 6-Button fighting games.

For price reference, they recently picked up nice TATE Gottlieb Challenger cab for $350 but the monitor isn't easily rotatable, so they figured getting another cab and running them side-by-side is the way. Willing to move up in price, but would kinda shy away from anything over $500.

Please let me know if you see something, prefer a local pick up in Brissy but if there's something around Syd or Melbs, could always get Bill to transport it.
