I bought myself consolized MVS from Aliexpress, I love it. It pair super with my Darksoft cart. Sadly my board had some so it is now in the process to get it replaced. The component out was missing Red, or st least it was quite dimm. Also niticed sometimes a line of pixels that was garbled. But this was on all video outputs so I assumed that likely sync wasn’t super stable or something.

This made me wonder, does anybody know which design they are based of?
In case I run into issues in the future I can fix it myself instead of sending it back to China.


It’s pretty well built if you ask me and I’m a sucker for the AES esthetic. It’s a bit pricey though, but still cheaper then an actual AES.

Yeah, I recognize this. These are an MV1B board with custom PCB's from China to consolize it. They have flex cables to flatten the board and make it vertical-loading.
 
I'm a bit curious about that NEO-BUF replacement. Looks like they added an IC instead of just bridging the pins with the flex cable.

I see what you mean. Sadly I cannot take better pictures. Replacement is on it’s way. I’ll check it out and place some higher detailed pictures of the new board.

I have one of these too, is there something I can provide for you?
 
@ack Took a look in through the cart slot, and I have a completely different model internally, and the NEO-BUF is unpopulated entirely. It's the same in the way they used ribbon cables to flatten the PCB and have the add-on PCBs, but I have a NEO-MVH SLOT1 and not a MV1B1 as @coldasijs has.
 
I have 2 of these (mv1b) from when they were first released. Both missing neo-buf (uses passthrough).

Neither one works well with DarkSoft MVS or competitors cart.

They look cool but are collecting dust.
 
Today my replacement MVS arrived. Now component is working, but not perfect. Red is slighty less vivid. The good news that it’s not suffering from flickering pixel.

The seller said he would ship a new one but this shell is missing the cartridge cover and the reset button. Not a big issue as I still have the case of the first one.

The component video output on these units is not good. You described how it looks well. Red is dull.

The din outputs good RGB though.

You can get several RGB to component solutions that work well.

I like the hd retrovision Genesis 2 component cables.
 
Yeah I was guessing this since the previous one had next to no red output. I wonder if it’s not a matter of replacing some resistors with potmeters so you could tune it. Not that i would do it.

Funny you talk about the adapter cable of HD retrovision. I almost bought one. Was looking for a solution for my sega saturn since it has 10 pin mini din and I already own a HD retrovision sega md cable. Saw they had these adapter cables. At 8bitmods the saturn was out of stock and on another shop the neo geo one was out of stock in another shop. It’s a very nice solution for my usecase as my consoles are not connected, so I’m looking how I can keep all the cables/controllers/powersupplies to a minimum.
 
Obviously these systems are made with old motherboards, and I don't think they really refurbish or recap them in any way. So I think it's pretty normal if the video is a bit less than perfect. The video outputs are handled by an encoder board, so the original RGB is probably the best output.
