What's new

Home Arcade System

I go from HAS to SCART switch to Retrotink. I guess I thought that would be a more common configuration here. Of course, being arcade forums, I would assume crts in cabinets and such, but also figured a number of folks would have tinks, ossc's, etc with modern displays for convenience. It seems I am the odd duck out.

These mini dins are confusing, now which one is 9 pin one, is that genesis or sega saturn?
10 pin mini din is saturn, 9 pin mini din is genesis model 2, 8 pin mini din is the old HAS and also some older NES RGB mods. I'm not sure what else uses the 8 pin mini because the HAS was my first encounter with it. The Genesis model 1 uses a larger 8 pin DIN (similar to the Neo Geo AES, but the Genesis is a 262 degree 8 pin whereas the Neo Geo is 270 degree).

I'm sure this isn't comprehensive, but AFAIK:

Mini-DIN 8
  • XRGB Framemeister
  • Atari 2600 2600RGB
  • Etim's NES RGB
  • Etim's GGTV
  • Mobius Strip CD-i RGB (choice of 8 or 9)
  • BlackDogTech 3DO RGB (choice of 8 or 9)
  • HAS supergun (AFAIK 4.x-5.0)
  • Minigun supergun (choice of 8 or 9)

Mini-DIN 9
  • Genesis 2 & 3, Nomad
  • RetroHQ 7800 GameDrive for Atari 7800
  • Insurrection Sparkplug for PC Engine
  • Krikzz EDFX for PC Engine
  • TerraOnion Super HD System 3 Pro for PC Engine
  • Humble Bazooka Jaguar AIOA
  • OpenMVS
  • Mobius Strip CD-i RGB (choice of 8 or 9)
  • BlackDogTech 3DO RGB (choice of 8 or 9)
  • Common plug for HD Retrovision (pigtail adapters for SMS, Saturn, PS1)
  • Minigun supergun (choice of 8 or 9)

Mini-DIN 10
  • Saturn
  • MisterAddons IO Analog Pro
  • Retro Remake SuperStation

Anyway, I don't want to be an e-beggar clamoring for features that benefit me. Just chiming in to say you're not alone. Whatever makes sense for RGB to choose, there are usually adapters.

Of course. I wasn't requesting any features with respect to the HAS. Just curious what people here were using for cables since TTL level SCART cables are not the norm in places I've looked. Hopefully once Retro Access is back up and running they'll be able to accommodate with some custom builds.

I think I'm in the same boat. I would love to buy new HAS but at the moment I don't know which cable I need to get to connect it to my gScart switch setup. Before it was easy to find a right cable :(

I use a gscart as well. And interestingly what I learned in this thread just recently is even on my old HAS, I was apparently using a non-ideal cable since both the 5.0 and the cable had 470ohm on the sync line. But it did work fine as far as I could tell, so hoping for the same with the Retrotink cable. I'd say if you want a 5.1, go ahead and grab one. The cable part is just a small obstacle we'll find a way around.
