How old is your CPS2 battery?

Just received a MvC all in one, still on battery! This bad boy has seem a lot of arcade time. Looks like the battery might be off gassing and messing some traces up. I need to figure out if the OpenKey works on all in ones. Thanks to @Phil Bennett for this awesome game!

The OP pointed out this wacky thread, despite my specimen not being a CPS-2 battery. I just replaced my System16 Golden Axe Hitachi FD1094 68k suicide battery and this antique was still chugging along fine with a batch date of "89-05". I wonder what that estimated life span would have been for these. I've never seen anything like it! :D

Oh man, you got that board for a steal! Don't forget to neutralize the acid on the PCB and then clean it up!
I did lol, she had it for $120 and I made an offer for $75 and she took it with 1hr to go.
Version 961004 so it’s less nerfed.

I knew the audio was probably her A board so I took the shot. Works great and I got the game I have been wanting 30 years now.

I pulled this one from a Japanese Cyberbots just today. Game came out in 1995 but battery had a 93-04 date. Anyway, I just wanted to mention that replaced 12 cps2 batteries today, all them had Tadiran 5902 installed in 2014 and 2015. Two of them already suicided, 1.2 and 0.6 v for each battery. I store all my boards in a dry temperature controlled environment.
I’m thinking about going the Infinikey/Openkey route and stop wasting my time every 10 years. I always thought these Tadiran batteries would not be as good as the original Maxell ones and this is the proof.

Were your 5902’s in keystone holders, or were they axial?

Not all Tadirans are created equal…some have better capacity than others.
No keystone, axial. This one has a bit more capacity (1.2 Ah) than the original Maxell battery.
Anyway, it could not have been a capacity issue as the rest of batteries removed measured over 3.6 v.

H! 🙂

One day, I installed a Suicide Free Modchip CPS2 for a retro game collector.

After installing a Suicide Free Modchip CPS2, he asked me if I could also put the original battery back in as an addition, as the CPS2 game
looked much more legit 😑👈

Go ahead, man, wear leggings with your 2-ruble Legit.🤭

I can't stand the word "Legit" anymore; it gets on my nerves.😡

Here are my old batteries that I kept as a souvenir, there are models with double capacity that I bought new at the time to change them every 10 years Maxell ER6C, some are still good because I put infinity keys 2/3 years ready for their installation

I just measured them; the small ones are 3.686 volts, the two large ones are 3.780 volts.🙂
