Hi there.

I've just bought a Triforce type 3, and when I boot it I have the start screen ("initializing media board") 1 second and after "Error 02 Main board malfunctioning".
Do you know this error ?

Was it tested working?

I had one laying around for an entire year that would only boot to a black screen. I took it completely apart (PITA BTW) and found some loose cables. Put it back together and works great since.

Something to try.

I trust my seller, Triforce must be working before shipping.
I will try to took it completely apart to see if something has moved during shipping.

Open it up!

I had this problem several times and, in most of the cases, is just a data strip that went out of the connector.

Remove the netboard and check the data strip that goes from the mother board to the media board (the one between the memory card slots),that one usually is the loose one.

Good luck!

Best regards.

Just opened the Triforce, unmounted all parts, double checked all cables (unpluged, cleaned and pluged back each).
And now... Error 26 / "Media board malfunctioning"...

That is a problem with your PIC or the jumpers aren't set correctly for your PIC. If set to netboot it won't boot with a GD rom zero key, if set to GD Rom mode it won't boot with a netboot zero key.

Oh yes, I've switched to Netboot to perform tests. Thanks. I will try with a CF game.
But I used a Netboot PIC to replace CF PIC, so I will have to solve this netboot issue after.

I've just putted back CF PIC and VS2 on a CF, with good dipswitch. The game load but when at 100% instead of launching I have error 26.
I will try with another CF and game.

How did this go? Loading now?
No, I still have this error 26.
But I think I have some troubles with the tool to write CF. I've tried to write a new CF for my Naomi (works fine with old CF) and I have error 26, too. I've tried several ROMs, redownloaded the tool, 2 PCs. Perhaps a bug under Windows 10 (64bits) ? I will check with an older computer, but my old laptop with Windows XP (32) is dead this summer.

elaborate how do you write with the tool and what exact tool are you using please.

Are you sure that you have the right ID for your CF? If that's the case I would suggest you enter the ID but switching the bytes (i.e. if ID is 3032, try also 3230).

Also try another CF just to make sure that's not the problem.

Thanks for your help.
Yes I'm sure for ID, I've read it with a PCMCIA converter for new CF, and used ID I've written on old CF. I tried 5 CF, 2 new and 3 I used with my Naomi CF, tested working on Naomi before rewritting. I've tried to write again Naomi game and I have an error. So the problem come from my writting. I've checked swapping as you propose, it doesn't solve.
Can someone confirm using this tool under Windows 10 ? I've tried under another computer running Win10 32bits, it's the same problem.

Maybe try running as administrator or running in compatibility mode (not sure if this option is avaialable on Windows 10 anymore)

I don't know if it is a Windows 10 problem but recently it stopped working on my Win10 pc so I have to use either my XP or Win7 pc.

That stupid error 26 was just a problem with Windows 10 ! I've exhumed a Pentium 3 500Mhz with a an older Windows, write teh CF with it, and now the game launch.

So error 03 was something moved during shipping, solved by tooking the Triforce completely apart, (even if I've not seen anything loose)
and error 26 was just a mess with Windows, solved using an old PC.

Thanks everyone for helping me!
